Claude Code Gets ‘Computer Use’ in the CLI

Claude can now open apps, click through UI, and test what it built directly from your terminal

The Rundown

Anthropic added ‘computer use’ to Claude Code, letting Claude interact with your desktop UI from the CLI. Instead of stopping at code generation, Claude can open apps, click through interfaces, and verify what it built end-to-end.

The Details

  • Claude Code can now control apps and UI flows (open, click, type, and observe) from the command line
  • This makes it possible to test GUI-only workflows and debug visual issues without leaving the CLI
  • The feature is available in research preview for Pro and Max plans
  • It pushes coding agents from ‘write code’ to ‘build and validate’ by actually using the product like a user

Why It Matters

The next leap for coding agents is closing the loop: generating code is easy, proving it works in real UI environments is hard. ‘Computer use’ turns Claude Code into a more end-to-end agent that can reproduce bugs, run through user journeys, and validate changes, which is exactly where most engineering time gets burned.
