Anthropic has launched Claude for Word in beta, letting users draft, edit, and revise documents directly from the sidebar while preserving formatting and showing edits as tracked changes. The feature is available on Team and Enterprise plans, and it can share context with Claude for Excel and PowerPoint so Claude can work across multiple open documents in a single conversation.
The real enterprise moat for AI assistants is deep integration into the tools where work happens. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are core surfaces for knowledge work; bringing Claude into Microsoft Office workflows with shared context moves Claude from ‘chat’ to ‘co-worker.’ If adoption is strong, expect a wave of office-native agent features focused on document editing, governance, and auditability.
